Text: Why Be a Warrior?

What does it mean to be a warrior?*

For me it always means showing up for what I believe in. Showing up to help those in need. Showing up for myself, too.

Sometimes I’m fueled by anger, other times by sorrow, still other times by a sense of what is right. There’s a lot of injustice in the world. If we don’t band together to confront it, who will?

There will never be a perfect time or place to show up. We will never be in the perfect position to help. We’ll never have our lives together perfectly.

So, engaging the warrior’s heart means being willing to take a risk from our imperfect selves—during these imperfect times—and to find a way to simply act.

Taking action is always a risk. What makes us willing to try?

What helps bolster us? What supports us, so we can support others?

*It has been useful for me to reclaim the word warrior. If you still struggle with this word, I understand. You can also do this work as a healer, a teacher, a parent, or a lover. Showing up wholeheartedly is necessary for all of these roles.
